Silvair ready with the world’s first qualified Bluetooth mesh stack [press release]

San Francisco, July 19, 2017 — Yesterday, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) adopted the highly anticipated Bluetooth mesh networking specification, opening a new chapter in the evolution of connected lighting technologies.

Silvair, a pioneer in Bluetooth-based smart lighting networks and one of the major contributors to the development of this new global standard, is the world’s first company offering software solutions for lighting that are officially qualified by the Bluetooth SIG.

The Bluetooth mesh networking standard has been optimized to meet the challenging requirements of the commercial lighting environment. It delivers a range of features that make it the only wireless technology capable of ensuring wire-like reliability in fully scalable connected lighting networks. Just like the previous flavours of Bluetooth, the new mesh networking standard also promises to ensure cross-vendor interoperability, addressing what is said be the biggest roadblock to widespread adoption of connected lighting in professional applications. On top of that, Bluetooth mesh networks can provide multiple unique location-based services, such as precise indoor navigation, beacons-via-lighting or asset tracking.

Silvair was one of the pioneers in developing proprietary mesh networks based on the Bluetooth radio. After joining the Bluetooth SIG, the company became the leading contributor to the Mesh Working Group which has worked on a standardized Bluetooth mesh networking technology for the past 30 months. “We are serious about the lighting industry, as we believe connected lighting will pave the way for massive IoT adoption. After more than 2 years of interoperability testing, and with contributions from the leading software, silicon and lighting companies, we are certain that Bluetooth mesh networking will be wildly successful,” comments Szymon Slupik, CTO of Silvair and Chair of the Mesh Working Group at Bluetooth SIG.

Bluetooth mesh stack

Silvair offers a number of solutions that are already compliant with the just adopted standard. These include a complete and flexible implementation of the core Bluetooth mesh networking stack, which allows lighting manufacturers to easily incorporate a robust and reliable wireless communication technology into LEDs, drivers, switches and sensors. The Bluetooth mesh stack developed by Silvair has been optimized to enable low-latency communication even in high-density lighting networks that employ sensors to drive efficiencies. In addition, the company provides a range of dedicated testing, prototyping and manufacturing tools that streamline and facilitate the process of integrating Bluetooth mesh connectivity into lighting and sensor products. One of them is the Lighting Evaluation Kit which is readily available to manufacturers willing to evaluate the capabilities of Bluetooth mesh networking or test the solutions developed by Silvair. The company will also be launching a series of pilot installations with its partners.

The adoption of the Bluetooth mesh networking standard will have a transformative impact on the lighting industry. It’s been years since we placed a bet on the Bluetooth radio and it’s going to be exciting for us to watch the Bluetooth mesh revolution unfold over the coming months. Silvair gives its partners a head start with a ready-to-use wireless technology, the shortest time to market, and guaranteed compliance with the Bluetooth mesh standard,“ says Rafal Han, CEO of Silvair.

Silvair is also developing an end-to-end smart lighting platform for commissioning and managing large-scale connected lighting systems. Leveraging the unique proximity sensing capabilities of the Bluetooth radio, the platform lays infrastructure for a wide range of innovative value-added services that can be provided within commercial spaces.
